FAMILY LITERACY DAY

Tuesday, 22. January 2013 by Doreen McDonell

We will be celebrating Family Literacy Day at Taylor Elementary School on FRIDAY, JANUARY 25.  On Friday, we encourage students to wear their pajamas to school and bring a small blanket or teddy bear to snuggle with while they read.  Our wonderful PAC will be providing all students with a pancake breakfast in the morning. Please keep in mind will be start breakfast by feeding the kindergartens first, so you may want to feed your older children a light breakfast to tide them over until it is their turn. The day’s schedule is:

9:00-10:30 Pancake breakfast and board games in classrooms

10:45-12:00 “Read and Feed” sponsored by the Library – prizes will be awarded during this time but please provided your child with a healthy ‘book-friendly’ snack to eat while they read.

12:45-1:00 Book read over the PA to all students

1:00-2:00 Collaborative writing in house groups

2:00-2:30 Whole school activities in the gym – group picture and story drama

National Sweater Day

Thursday, 17. January 2013 by Jason Gill

Join us in celebrating National Sweater Day on Thursday February 7th!

Last year millions of Canadians turned down the heat and threw on a sweater to show their support for taking action against climate change. If Candians turned down their thermostats this winter, they could not only help reduce harmful greenhouse gases, but save on their energy bills!

The popular ‘Granny Call Centre’ will return for another year, which recruits REAL Grannies to make reminder calls in early February to ensure no one forgets the all important date! To get your granny to audition, or for more information check out the website:

When it comes to sweaters take the view: “The uglier, the better!”

Welcome Back!

Sunday, 06. January 2013 by Jason Gill

Happy new year everyone!

After a nice vacation, we are all excited to see the students back at the school to kick off our Social Responsibility week!  On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, we will be revisiting our School-Wide Expectations and Code of Conduct in house groups.  On Friday, students will get a chance to present their learning in the afternoons’ group presentations in the gym.  Friday will also be a Spirit Day, where students will dress up in their house colors to show their school spirit!

I will be putting out a newsletter towards the end of the week, which will help in planning for the month.  If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me here at the school.
