RE:  Lockdown practices

Dear Parents,

I am writing to let you know that Taylor Elementary School has been invited to work with School District administration to develop a procedure to practice what is known as a “Lockdown”.

While we currently have a process that we review annually with staff, the district is moving towards regular drills with students in all our schools. This follows the Ministry of Education’s Safe Schools initiative to bring consistency to how lockdowns are carried out around the province.  The district is also collaborating with the RCMP on the development of the plan as well as the response and follow-up.

We are in the process of talking with our staff and students around what the expectations will be, leading up to a practice at the following time:

Tuesday, March 4th, at 1:00 PM.

Even though we are trying to ensure that all staff, students and parents are aware of the practice, we realize this type of drill can cause anxiety for some people.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Doug McCracken

Principal
